Whole School Approach to Underachievement

Victor Coert explains how they had positive results with this approach in Kilkeel High School.

Key Learning

• Identify the issues that evidence underachievement such as poor grades, poor attendance.

• Your school will have specific issues depending on the profile of the area for example engaging fathers who at times are absent due to work commitments.

• Engage with staff, parents, employers and other schools and agencies to address issues.

• Develop a long term plan and share plan with stakeholders.

• Engage with employers regarding subject choices and quality work experience.

• Address issues through a multi-facetted approach.
