Ashlene Magee - transition website

St John the Baptist’s College (SJBC) opened as a Key Stage 3 co-educational all-ability school on 1st September 2017. It is located in the heart of the Portadown community but welcomes students from an array of neighbouring towns and villages and has an intake of 100 pupils in each year group. They introduced Google classroom very soon after the school was established.

Ashlene Magee teaches History and English and is the ICT coordinator in St John the Baptist College.

When thinking about creating a transition website:

  • Think about the questions and concerns the new pupils might have

  • Consider the information parents will find helpful

  • Create a two way system for communication

  • Remember that the pupils are all joining the school with very different experiences

  • Prioritise personal connection

Questions to consider when welcoming new pupils:

How can we get to know more about the pupils when we won't be seeing them as much?

How can we reassure and welcome the new pupils to let them know that they are special and important in our school community?

How can we help the family with the practicalities of moving to big school?

How can we prepare the pupils for managing their academic work in the year ahead?

How can we help the pupils and their families feel part of the school?

This website was created using google sites, which is available for all teachers through C2K.
